About Ethiopian Tribes

With more than 50 unique tribes living in the Omo River Region of Southwestern Ethiopia, it’s a fascinating destination for those interested in African cultures. The remote location, which is barely accessible by 4 wheel-drive, has meant that traditional customs and beliefs are very much intact for most of these tribes.

We cover Ethiopian tribes on this website.

I just want to say that I am so glad that I found this site. I am glad because this kind of information is not taught in school. At least not in grade school. I feel that as an
African American, we should know as much about African history as possible. I am particularly interested in the Oromo people and the Gadaa system. I didn’t know that Oromos existed until very recently. Your web site is providing for me some very rich and valuable informtion. I am very pleased with what I am learning about the Oromo people and I am praying for them and their struggle. Keep up the good work in providing this kind of information. God bless you,
    Sandra

We are adopting a 2 year old Ethiopian boy through Hope Orphanage in Addis Ababa and he has tribal markings on his eyelids – verticle slashes-scars. Do you know which tribe or area this would be from in Ethiopia? I am trying to gather information for his baby book.
